What Is Sleep Dentistry?

Sleep dentistry refers to sedation options that may assist patients in managing dental anxiety or undergoing longer or more complex procedures. This procedure involves the patient falling ‘asleep’ under general anesthesia.

It’s important to note that suitability for sedation depends on your individual health circumstances, and each option carries specific risks. Your dentist and anesthetist (if required) will discuss these with you before treatment. Please note that sleep dentistry is available at most but not all of our clinics. If this is something you are considering, we encourage you to discuss your options with your clinician, who can advise on availability and suitability.

Who Is Sleep Dentistry Used For

Sleep Dentistry may be incorporated into a range of dental treatments depending on your individual needs and treatment plan. Your dentist will discuss the available options, along with any relevant risks, considerations and suitability, during your consultation.

Alternatives To Sleep Dentistry

At Dental Boutique™ Implant Centres, we understand that sleep dentistry may not be for everyone. That’s why we have alternative methods to sleep dentistry in order to assist in easing anxiety and discomfort.

Relaxation Techniques (Music, Deep Breathing Techniques)

There are different relaxation techniques that can aim to help you get through your anxiety problems on the dental chair. We love teaching these techniques to anyone who wants to learn and apply them

IV Sedation

Unlike sleep dentistry, You will remain conscious but drowsy and patients may have little or no memory of the procedure. A period of recovery is required afterwards and you must arrange for someone to accompany you home.

Oral Sedatives

Involves taking prescribed medication in tablet form before treatment. This option may assist with managing mild to moderate dental anxiety. Patients remain conscious and responsive but may feel more relaxed. At Dental Boutique, this is included at no additional charge.
